Subject: Free- or Shareware PPP for Windows
I will shortly be looking for a way to connect my Windows system to a
PPP server. Does anyone know of any shareware or freeware PPP
software for Windows which works with Winsock?
(Unfortunately, SLIP doesn't appear to be an option, so unless Peter
Tattam has added it to Trumpet recently, I won't be able to use his
software :-(
Please send replies via e-mail only, and thanks in advance for your
help.

Is it possible to have winvn only retrieve unread articles?
I've tried to select 'Unread' when a newsgroup has more than 100
articles. I also tried to modify ShowReadArticles in the ini file.
Thanks,
Andy

This is being worked on. If you'd like to try out an intermediate
(possibly buggy) test version, grab
ftp.ksc.nasa.gov:[pub.win3.winvn]winvngen_for_testing.zip,
and add/change the following line in you winvn.ini's [Communications]
section:
GenSockDLL=gensock.dll
(just keep gensock.dll with the executable).
Let me know if it fixes the problem.
Thanks!

Novell's Client for DOS/MS Windows v1.1 is part 00662644013411 and costs
$99/site, dual media. That'll get you Novell's TCP/IP stack, a couple of
debugging tools like ping, and the Novell Winsock.
>I believe this product is called LAN Workplace.
It's called that when you pay ~ $400/copy and need the TCP/IP applications
like telnet, ftp client and server, etc. If all you want is the protocol stack
and winsock then save your money and go for the client kit. Works fine with
every winsock app I've tried.

Trumpet for Windows version 1.0 Revision B final beta #1 will search as you
have described. You simply start typing characters and the selection jumps to
the first occurrence of the current string you have typed whether you are in
the list boxes or the viewer. Ctrl-N searches for the next occurence. This
feature is not documented as yet, but it was explained by Peter Tattam on his
trumpet-user listserv.
You can get a copy of this release of Windows Trumpet from
petros.psychol.utas.edu.au in /pub/trumpet/wintrump/pre-release:wt_wsk.zip
dated April 18, 1994.

Subject: WIN NT (sockets) server suite
I am planning to set up a Windows NT Advanced Server system within the next
three months. I have begun setting up Win Sockets and various "Unix" services
such as WFTPD. However, I would like to include in NNTP and SMTP/POP
protocols.
Does anyone know if these programs exist for the NT platform. If not, does
anyone know of POSIX compliant UNIX programs?
Thanks!

Subject: Winsock Telnet With Scripting?
Is there a winsock telnet client with script capability? There are a handful
of telnet activities I would like to automate for my users and a scripting
language (a la NCSA or CUTCP) would come in handy. It would appear that
trmptel .06 doesn't (although I'm only concluding that from a lack of
documentation with the .exe as I FTP'd it).
